Excellent Piece on Lobbying

Someone called Tamasin Cave* has written a very good piece on the need for a mandatory register for lobbyists in the UK. The recent news stories have focused on the alleged antics of various peers, but, as Cave points out, we need to focus on those who are seeking to influence our representatives. Without complete transparency our system of government will continue to excite justifiable suspicion.

You can read the article yourself here.

*In the interests of transparency, I must state for the record that I know Ms Cave.

I totally agree and where these lobbyists are in many ways one of the root causes of why the financial/economic crisis has come about. For powerful lobbyists extract what they wish, not what the public wish. It is driven by a form of greed and self-interest where commercial interests are involved and should be abolished in all reas of commercialism. Indeed, why do government need to be influenced by corporates, can't they work out what is right for the country or not without reverting to pressures from the corporate world?
It appears to me to be a one-way street as usual.
